  • CQC

Here we run through some of the resources we offer to support providers with preparing for CQC assessment and improving CQC rating.

We recently published our Top tips on meeting CQC requirements, which highlighted some of the best advice we’ve heard from our expert care exchange podcast guests on preparing for CQC assessment and exceeding CQC expectations. Building on this article, we wanted to offer service leaders a complete overview of the resources we have available to help them be best placed to secure an Outstanding CQC rating.

Inspection toolkit

Our Inspection toolkit is designed specifically for adult social care providers who are preparing for CQC assessment, providing you with the essential evidence needed to achieve a Good or Outstanding rating under the Assessment Framework.

Featuring recommendations and examples directly sourced from providers who meet CQC expectations, this toolkit encourages you to reflect on your own service and explore various approaches to delivering care. It offers an in-depth examination of each of the Key Questions and Quality Statements.

This toolkit was co-produced with The Outstanding Society and serves as a regularly updated resource for good and best practices in the sector.

Marlene Kelly, Director and Registered Manager at Auburn Mere Residential Care Home, said:

I use the GO Online: Inspection toolkit and think it’s great. It enables us to see instantly what area we need to focus on improving.

Kathryn Cooper, Registered Manager, Devonshire House Care, said:

The toolkit has helped me massively. All of the questions that I was struggling with I now have a good understanding, and I can demonstrate how we meet them.

eLearning

We’ve designed a range of eLearning modules to help you understand what is expected of your service and how you can best evidence these expectations during CQC assessment.

Each module is aimed at managers and quality and compliance leads, although anyone involved in CQC assessment can complete the module.

All of our content is based on successful practice from real organisations, and we use this insight to inform the interactive information and filmed examples of how good quality care impacts people, staff, managers and the wider business.

Amy Hilton, Registered manager, Radfield Home Care Bexhill, said:

The module is fantastic and easy to use. It has helped me already. It’s very welcome at a time where focussing on this important area has been difficult. I have not found it easy obtaining quality advice in this area. I know I can trust Skills for Care. It has helped me to be clearer about how to prepare for inspection.

Workshops and seminars

Whether you are preparing for your first assessment, striving to deliver outstanding care or needing to improve, Skills for Care offers a range of one-day, interactive CQC-focused seminars to help you perform your best.

We recently caught up with some local authorities who commissioned our seminars to support providers in their region.

Helen Wright, External Workforce Manager at Norfolk County Council, said:

We recently worked with Skills for Care to commission CQC seminars, as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of adult social care across the Norfolk and Waveney. This work has been invaluable, particularly as we work towards our goal to get 85% of all types of care provision rated either good or outstanding.

One of the main reasons we chose to work with Skills for Care is their credibility as a national body and their extensive experience within adult social care. We had close working relationships with several members of Skills for Care’s team, and they have always instilled a great deal of confidence in their ability to help us improve standards of social care in our region.

These seminars have been a useful addition to our wider offering, which includes promoting registered manager membership to providers, as well other resources which Skills for Care make available to the sector.

Charlotte Walters, Market Development Officer at Staffordshire County Council, said:

The Care Market Development Team are committed to supporting Staffordshire Adult Social Care providers to maintain and deliver high standards of care and ensure staff are supported to access best practices. We decided to commission Skills for Care because they offered bespoke training courses that no one else offered in the market. Skills for Care have a proven reputation for good quality and comprehensive support that is tailored to the adult social care sector.

Our experience of working with Skills for Care has been positive. Their team have been highly professional throughout the whole process. The training sessions were well-structured and engaging, making it easy for attendees to absorb and apply their new knowledge.

As a result of this partnership working, our care providers have had the opportunity to gain new skills and insights that will help to improve and develop their care services. The benefits include care providers feeling more supported and aware of the resources available to them, supporting the provision of high-quality care.

We would recommend Skills for Care to others. Their expertise and support have been instrumental in us helping to provide our Staffordshire Adult Social Care providers with the opportunity to further develop.

Support for new services

New care organisations must be carefully planned to ensure sustainability and the ability to deliver high-quality care. To help with this planning, we’ve created guidance for new care providers which can help you prepare for crucial parts of running a new service, such as your first CQC assessment.
