An inspirational #GoodNewsFriday where we hear how our very own Head of Area for the Midlands, Shirley Way, has won an award for her amazing contribution to social care.
Shirley’s career in social care began when she volunteered at the age of 14, a decision that laid the groundwork a great career to the sector. As our Head of Area for Midlands, Shirley was recently honoured to receive an award for her contribution to the sector.
Her collaboration with the West Midlands Care Association (WMCA), from whom she received her Outstanding Contribution award, has been a key part of her work since she joined Skills for Care in 2017. Shirley has played a vital role in supporting Registered Managers Networks and working on various projects to strengthen the sector.
One particularly significant period was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Shirley and WMCA CEO Keiron Broadbent spent many hours ensuring that care providers received clear, consistent communication and access to crucial resources. This included offering practical and emotional support to managers who were dealing with the loss of residents and staff during an incredibly difficult time.
The recognition from WMCA holds special meaning for Shirley, as it comes from an organisation she greatly respects, one that represents the hard-working care providers in the region.
Looking ahead, Shirley remains focused on supporting the social care sector. She views her recent award not just as a recognition of her own work, but as a reflection of the collective effort of her team and the wider sector in driving positive change.
