Join our Race Equality Week Challenge

This week is Race Equality Week and we’re running a challenge to encourage social care providers to drive positive change in their organisations. Find out how you can get involved.

Race Equality Week is an annual UK-wide movement uniting hundreds of thousands of organisations and individuals to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace.

The theme for 2024 is #ListenActChange, that’s why we’re encouraging social care providers to drive positive change in their organisation with our Race Equality Week Challenge.

To get involved with the challenge we’re asking you to do two things:

1. Pick a learning challenge with your teams to complete during the week and share your activities with us on social media by tagging us and using the hashtag #ListenActChange.
2. Make a commitment to continuing equality, diversity and inclusivity learning and development beyond Race Equality Week.

We’ve created a guide which provides current thinking and understanding about racism. This works as a great tool for reflection and discussion at team meetings, and provides an action template which you can complete as group to plan positive changes for your organisation.

Watch our videos about being confident with difference

Our ‘Confident with difference’ resource is made up of four short films covering diversity in the workplace. Each film is accompanied by an activity to generate discussions to consider how well diversity is embraced within your organisation and how you could improve. This is another great resource to use with your teams.

Take on our training about culturally appropriate care

We’ve created a training session to support care workers in providing culturally appropriate care to people from different backgrounds. The session helps staff to think about direct and indirect discrimination, and gives a broader understanding of how to relate to and work more effectively with people from diverse cultures.

We created a webinar speaking with Black female leaders in social care, to hear about their experiences, challenges, and successes in the workplace. The webinar celebrates the contribution of Black women in social care and provides an opportunity to reflect on obstacles and challenges faced by people from diverse backgrounds.

Learn more about creating an inclusive organisation

We have two eLearning modules which are aimed at everyone working in social care who’d like to learn more about equality, diversity, and inclusion.

The modules explore the barriers to career progression that people from ethnic minority backgrounds often face and will support learners to build confidence to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion within their organisation.

The ‘Understanding workplace culture’ continuing professional development (CPD) module helps managers to explore what workplace culture means and provides practical support to influence change and develop the culture of their service.

Take the steps towards moving up in your organisation

The Moving Up programme is aimed at leaders from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds who want to take the next step in their career, with an understanding of the specific barriers which people from a diverse background may face in progression.

Additionally, it offers an opportunity to network with like-minded people in the sector, learn from others, and share experiences and ideas.
