Throughout April we’re #CelebratingSocialCare and all the great work happening across the sector. We asked you to send in your good news stories and we’ll be sharing these throughout the month. Today we hear about some incredible staff members who have gone above and beyond in their roles.
Amazing Angela
Angela is a staff member at Castle Supported Living who supported a lady with a learning disability for over eight years, helping her try new things, realise her dreams and take pride in her achievements.
Examples include being a very active part of Dance Syndrome, performing throughout the UK and becoming a dance leader, which meant Angela having to do things outside of her own comfort zone to deliver the best care possible.
Angela pushed through, always maintaining her positive spirit which inspired confidence and taking time to recognise the smaller details to offer the most person-centred approach.
This has meant that the supported lady also had active involvement in a range of other projects including Art4All, showcasing her creative talents being part of art exhibitions, local library projects and voluntary work.
Angela always encouraged the lady in a sensitive and professional way to get the very best from life. Sadly, the lady suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in December 2024 which was a huge shock for her family and support network.
The family continuously fed back that Angela was such an amazing team member – without the dedicated support from Angela the lady would not have been able to live such an enjoyable and fulfilled life.
They shared a tribute to Angela as part of the funeral service that recognised the impact that having such support had made to the quality of the lady’s life.
Rising star award for Beth
Beth Hatcher joined LDC Care Company in January 2024, and in September 2024 she won the Rising Star Award at the Kent Integrated Care Alliance Awards.
This success has had a big impact at LDC, showing families, those being supported, and the wider community that LDC Care is committed to developing and recognising talent within its team.
Beth’s journey is a great example of career development within LDC, highlighting the company’s supportive environment and potential for professional growth helping to retain skilled staff and attract new talent.
Well done Beth and LDC!
Becky’s new role
Becky had been a senior carer at Chichester Hall for around five years when the deputy home manager vacancy came up.
She was reluctant to go for the job at first, but with a little persuasion and encouragement from other staff, Becky applied for the vacancy and was selected for the role.
Since taking on the position Becky has shone, and staff have expressed how they think this change has had a positive impact upon the team and the residents.
Every day Becky goes above and beyond for the residents, even if this is just taking some time out for a chat and a catch up.
Becky made such a positive impact upon our staff and residents that she was unanimously voted employee of the month in January, which was extremely well-deserved.
The son of a resident said:
Becky is like a breath of fresh air
