This #GoodNewsFriday we hear about a 76-year-old carer who has been dedicated to her job for over a decade.
Sandra's story is one of dedication. At 76 years old, she has been supporting people at Aster Care for over 10 years.
Sandra is a cornerstone of the Aster Care team, working to ensure that individuals being supported can maintain their independence and dignity by living in their own homes in Portsmouth.
One of Sandra's most notable achievements is her instrumental role in supporting a person with frontal-lobe dementia to return home after multiple failed hospital discharges. Nearly a decade later, thanks to Sandra's dedication and expertise, this supported person continues to thrive.
Sandra's impact extends beyond her care. As an on-call coordinator, she provides invaluable support to the office team, offering her expertise and guidance to ensure the smooth operation of services even outside of regular office hours.
What truly sets Sandra apart is her innate kindness and generosity. She goes above and beyond for everyone she supports, treating them with the utmost respect and ensuring their homes are kept clean and comfortable.
At 76, her energy, flexibility, and focus are nothing short of inspiring. She serves as both a Dysphagia Champion and a Pressure Ulcer Champion, sharing her knowledge and expertise with her colleagues to ensure the highest standards of care are upheld.
Sandra’s attitude reflects Aster Care’s commitment to kindness, respect, and appreciation. The organisation has created nurturing and supportive workplace where every team member feels valued and empowered to make a difference. From celebrating birthdays to offering incentives for extra work, Aster Care goes above and beyond to ensure its staff feel appreciated and supported. This has no doubt played a part in Sandra’s dedication and loyalty to her job and those she supports.
